Don’t forget to check back often for new additions to the MobiHand app catalog and for the Android Deal-of-the-Day.
Last week, Roboconn released BubbleChain, which essentially is a BlackBerry version of the popular iPhone and Facebook game app called ChainRXN. This FREE app joins many others in the family of BlackBerry games by Roboconn that are distributed through MobiHand.
MobiHand App-tivity Blog (MAB) had a chance to interview Robert Timm (RT), the president and lead developer at Roboconn. Here’s what he had to say:
MAB: Could you please provide some background on the RoboConn/Robert Timm family of products?
RT: I started writing BlackBerry games my freshman year of college with a friend. We were both learning to program in our introduction to Java course and took it upon ourselves to see what we could do with this new found knowledge. Since 2006 I have been fascinated with creating phone apps. The whole process of dreaming up, or recreating an idea, and giving it life is what excites me. Engineering is in my blood, and this is one of the best ways to date that I have been able to express myself and my ideas. Every app I write has new problems to solve and nothing pleases me more than occupying my mind with a problem and conjuring a solution.

Game developer, Epic Applications, has just released a major upgrade to Berry Wars that includes a new user interface and a new name: Druglord Wars.
In brief, Druglord Wars is an adventure game where you are up against the world of street dealers, crooked cops, and drug cartels in a battle for money and drugs. You start off in debt, with an objective of building your own drug empire. Along the way, you get to visit many beautifully rendered cities, AND fight throngs of attackers out to get you.
Per Derek Johnson of Epic Applications, there are three main ways Berry Wars has been improved:
First, we tweaked the gameplay to have different levels you have to work up to. Along with these levels come tons off all new items like weapons, drugs and new cities to explore.
We also hired an artist for weeks to make over 125 custom images just for this game.
To top it off we added a global high score board so users can compare themselves to players everywhere.
Johnson noted that within 24 hours, Druglord Wars has become the most popular game on the BlackBerry. He also stated that in the near future, they will be extending the game to the lower res, 4.5+ OS devices.
Some of the changes in this new version include:
Global online leaderboard to compare your skills to the world
17 drugs to buy and sell in 11 beautifully rendered cities
18 weapons and storage containers to take down enemies and hold more drugs
Over 125 custom designed images just for BlackBerry
Save games and preview progress before resuming
Unlimited gameplay mode which lets you see how far you can take your drug empire
To learn more about this new version, check out this review by Brett Wyman. He seemed particularly impressed with the images and the number of cities available:
“They are vivid and very sharp looking, along with the new images through out the game play, they add a better look and feel for the game player. Having more cities to select from then the previous version is a plus. Each city has their own style of what sells better and what does not.”
Looking to Re-up? If you already have Berry Wars, remember to click the Upgrade button to get relevant pricing on Druglord Wars.
And remember, you can find the MobiHand Deal-of-the-Day by visiting your BlackBerry community desktop app store powered by MobiHand or on your BlackBerry — either through using the MobiHand On-Device BlackBerry App Store or the BlackBerry’s web browser.
Legally Addictive Games has just released Addictive Tower Defense (ATD), a new tower defense game for BlackBerry smartphones. Designed for gamers by gamers, it is loaded with tons of extras like downloadable maps.
A desire to create a game that would showcase the power of the BlackBerry device is what drove Mike, co-founder of Legally Addictive Games, to start working on ATD. He said that he wanted to show users that with the right mix of art and expertise, the experience they’ve come to expect on other platforms can be available on their favorite BlackBerry.
Addictive Tower Defense offers a complete tower defense experience for your BlackBerry including maps with “mazing,” predefined paths and a mixture of the two, as well as several other innovative twists on classic designs. With the downloadable map system you will be able to take advantage of new maps being released all of the time and with the online leader board, you’ll never run out of competition.
Astraware Boardgames includes 7 games that can be adapted for players ranging from first timers to dedicated casual gamers. Included are: Chess, Backgammon, Ludo, Checkers, Reversi, Nine Men’s Morris, and Tic Tac Toe.
A nice touch is how these games evoke the feel of classic boardgames played on wooden boards.
“As a whole, this game is polished and certainly has enough content to justify the $4.99 price tag. There isn’t much more to say about this except that I highly recommend it–definitely helps you pass the time.”
You can find these and other games for your Android by visiting your Android community desktop app store powered by MobiHand or via the links above.
