TetherBerry

TetherBerry is Friday’s featured “Deal-of-the-Day.” Normal Price is $49.95. Today only, as the Deal-of-the-Day, it is just $24.97.

DoD_Logo_w_shadowTetherBerry promises “the Web anywhere.” This app, by a company by the same name, let’s you leverage your BlackBerry (and it’s data plan) to enable your notebook PC to gain access to the Internet anywhere there is cellular coverage. It is easy to install, easy to use and has impressive download speeds.

Mobile Crunch’s Matt Burns wrote:

“The tethering task is completed with a small app being installed on both the BlackBerry and the PC. Once both of these small programs are fired up, you’re done. There isn’t any settings that needs adjusting on either the PC or mobile. It just works, and it’s not terribly slow.

I saw a speed of 1403 kb/s up and 584 KB/s down while testing the app this morning which is totally acceptable by my standards. Google Chrome loaded the pages fast and it worked great. This is seriously the easiest solution available. It’s too bad that there isn’t a OS X release or Bluetooth mode, but we have to imagine that those are coming soon.”

You can read the NY Times Gadgetwise review here.

Twinkler Software’s AddOnis app, the Swiss Army knife for BlackBerry smartphones and Toysoft’s new ProfilerPro app now feature Integration.

Rory Shur of Twinkler Software explained the significance of this:

“Previously, any app that put the device into Standby mode would not allow any automated Profile switching app to function. Twinkler and Toysoft have worked together to overcome this limitation. Twinkler has added specific code to AddOnis which allows Toysoft’s Profiler app to ‘talk’ to AddOnis and request that AddOnis take the device out of standby to allow Profiler to operate normally. Once Profiler has completed its operation, AddOnis will once again put the device back into Standby mode.”

ProfilerProProfiler Pro (Normally $6.99, Special price of $5.99 until Nov 6) is an application that lets you automate system sound profile switching during the day. You can schedule profiles each day to change from one profile to another. Each profile you set the time to switch, the days which the profile will be active. Profiler Pro also integrates with the BlackBerry Calendar application. You can schedule a profile switch by creating a new appointment. The profile will automatically switch when the appointment starts and ends.

BerryReview.com’s Ronen Haley remarked, “This is a logical integration is because any app that puts your BlackBerry into standby mode would not allow any automated profile switching app to work.”

AddOnisScreenThe Integration is part of the just released, AddOnis v1.2.8 ($9.95), which also has these new features:

1. New firewall engine which means the firewall will work faster.

2. New “WiFi power off” feature, if WiFi is out of coverage, AddOnis will automatically turn off WiFi to conserve battery power.

3. Added new “emoticons”

4. Added “tone notification” to InCall Notification options.

5. Added “Address Book Only” firewall mode.

See the store for details and check with Twinkle Software and Toysoft about their upgrade policy.

If you are in the market for a Windows Mobile smartphone and you are cool with AT&T as a wireless provider, there are great deals to be had. According to a post by Ed Hardy at Brighthand, the HTC Tilt 2 is just $149.99 with new service plan (AT&T has it for $300) at Amazon.com. And LetsTalk.com is selling it for even less: $100.

HTC_Tilt2

Both of these online retailers are also offering the AT&T Pure for one cent ( as in $0.01) with a two-year contract (AT&T is selling it for $150 with contract).

Hardy’s post includes a comparison of the two phones, which have a lot in common — they both run Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro on 528 MHz processors, have WVGA touchscreens, mobile broadband, Wi-Fi, GPS, and microSD card slots.

Design-wise, the Tilt 2 has a 3.6-inch slide-and-tile display and a horizontally oriented QWERTY keyboard. The Pure has a tablet display with a 3.2-inch display and on-screen keyboard.

Global Positioning System (GPS) capability has become standard in many smartphones and mobile devices these days. In parallel with the expanding availability of GPS is an equally expanding catalog of apps that leverage GPS.

The following is a rundown of a few examples:

BerryCacher v1.0.0 by Eric PaschBerryCacher

Geocaching is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure. A geocacher can place a geocache in the world, pinpoint its location using GPS technology and then share the geocache’s existence and location online. Anyone with a GPS unit can then try to locate the geocache.

BerryCacher is a simplistic geocaching application for the BlackBerry Storm that was developed with casual users in mind. It has a simple interface to enter caches then find them. An overhead map view is available via BlackBerry Maps to give you directions to the cache location, then an easy to read compass view will direct you to within feet of the cache.  It runs $ 0.99.

**********

GrabABiteThere are many apps that offer helpful location based information.

GrabABite™ v2.5 by Volcari Software

This app uses Yelp ratings to help you find a place near you to eat.  It is $4.99.

ProxAlarm v1.0 by Greyhaven Technologies

ProxAlarm uses your GPS to notify you when you a close to a point of interest (POI). It can import (and export) Garmin formatted POI files.  It can also be used to find your car, your hotel or anything else you can think of. You can specify GPS co-ordinates or create a POI with your current location. ProxAlarm integrates with Blackberry maps – which will show you your way back to your POI.  It runs $3.99

**********

BerryTraqrThen there are the apps that help you track down a lost BlackBerry or lost employee. For $0.99 and no additional fees BerryTraqr will provide you with map views of a device’s current location.

BerryTraqr – More than a GPS Tracker! v1.0.7.6 by dohboy

e-GPS ($4.99) lets you remotely send a command to your BlackBerry that will have it email you its GPS location, your address book with all your contact information, as well as remotely wipe your phone and SD card to protect all of your information. Also if you have misplaced your phone at home or office, you can send an alert command, and have it ring, even if the sounds are turned completely off or set to vibrate. Once downloaded and activated, it runs in the background, and works by command, through email or SMS.

e-GPS v1.0 by The DB Group

CellSeekerSimilarly, there’s Cell Seeker by James N. Cox. It provides the ability to locate a lost or stolen cell phone. A nice feature is that Cell Seeker can be activated quietly, which allows for retrieving the current location of your cell phone without any visual or audible notifications that Cell Seeker was activated.

Cell Seeker v4.8.2.0 by James N. Cox

Usually $9.99. You can get it for half off, special price of $4.99, until Oct 31.

Berry Locator v1.6 by Mobireport, LLC is another option in this category.  It runs $6.99.

**********

BerryWeatherHere’s an interesting twist to a weather app.

BerryWeather 1.5 now with RADAR MAPS and GPS v1.5.47 by Bellshare GmbH

This is a great looking weather app that also has the capability of providing you with the weather of where you are based on the GPS location reading.

This function is for GSM devices only and does not work for non-Storm devices on Verizon due to carrier restrictions.  It runs $9.95.

**********

Now is a great time to do more with your BlackBerry’s GPS.  You can explore GPS and other categories by visiting your BlackBerry community desktop app store powered by MobiHand or on your BlackBerry — either through using the MobiHand On-Device BlackBerry App Store or the BlackBerry’s web browser.

berrybuzz3BerryBuzz by Bellshare GmbH ($5.99) extends your default Blackberry alert system.  It allows you to customze the LED color and create repeating audible reminders for many alert types.  BB Geeks has a nice review of it.

This video will give you a flavor of how it works.

AddOnisStoreAnother hot product for BlackBerry devices is AddOnis by Twinkler Software. Sometimes referred to as the Swiss Army Knife for BlackBerry devices, this app was defined and created by the user.

PocketInformantWMWebIS just unveiled Version 9 of Pocket Informant, timed with the release of Windows Mobile 6.5. This productivity enhancement solution now has “Getting Things Done” (GTD) support, and works on Windows Phone 6.5 devices with full Touch Gesture support throughout.

It lists for $19.99.

Here’s a link to one reviewer’s take on it:

” …great at to see that the Getting Things Done method -originally introduced by David Allen- is applied to tasks management. Since I’m a heavy user of tasks, I really like this improvement, and foremost the ability to group related tasks. In addition there is the improvement to star tasks, to find them quickly.

Again a feature that contributes a lot to the daily efficiency of the mobile professional.”

**********************

coreplayer12solsieds2Another hot product is CorePlayer Mobile For Windows Mobile / PocketPC by CoreCodec, Inc.

It lists for $29.95.

CorePlayer is designed to be a next-generation platform that will extend upon what you thought were limits in playing back fluid multimedia, with its simple yet extremely powerful interface and features that is designed to empower the CoreCodec Community.   Check out this review:

“There are a number of ways to watch YouTube videos on your mobile phone, but CorePlayer is the coolest and easiest way I’ve found, hands down. It uses minimal memory, runs very smoothly, the mp3 player shows album art, allows both mp3 and aac equalizer usage, and it can play back 700×600 DivX avi files without dropping any frams which is very cool.”
