Mytopia is a developer of multiplayer casual games that can play on numerous platforms (smartphones and social networks). According to Ohad Barzilay, general manager of Mytopia Inc., “The company aims to bring people to play the same games together regardless of what device they have or where they are.”
Along with apps for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms, Mytopia also has games that are available on Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Hi5, Friendster etc. People playing from the Web can play together in real time with people from across all the mobile devices.
Barzilay explained that you can even use your account both on the mobile and on the social network so you can play on your regular PC through Facebook at home, and continue the game on your mobile (i.e. BlackBerry Bold or T-Mobile myTouch 3G) once you go outside.
Mytopia’s approach really boosts the mult-player aspect of casual gaming because it ensures there are hundreds and thousands of players to play with at any moment, not just a few that had accidently bought the same game for the same device. Plus, there’s a social component which lets you chat with your friends during the game and add them to your buddy list.
Platform Introduced in 2008: Mytopia participated in last year’s TechCrunch50 conference, where they demonstrated their cross-platform development framework called RUGS. The idea is that an application is coded once and then automatically translated for compatibility on a range of mobile and Web platforms. It was noted during the conference that Mytopia” seems to be strongly focused not only on cross-platform compatibility, but cross-platform communication, demonstrating an impressive multiplayer communication aspect of the framework.”
A year later, the fruits of their labor can be seen in the MobiHand Network. Search on Mytopia and you’ll find many fun apps like Mytopia – Bingo Island Live and Mytopia – Spades Master Live running on Android and Windows Mobile platforms.
Mytopia – Bingo Island Live lets you play up to 3 Bingo boards simultaneously and chat with your friends during the game. Multiple rooms with different draw speeds and over a dozen patterns to try. Win Silver nuggets and Experience Points as you land numbers.
Mytopia – Spades Master is designed so you can join a friend and play together as a team, or take on the world alone in cut-throat mode. Setup private matches or hone your skills against challenging computer opponents.
According to Barzilay, Bingo Island Live, Lucky Slots Live, Spades Master Live, and Texas Hold’em Live are performing very well on the Android platform.
Windows Mobile versions list at $4.99. The Android versions range from $1.99 to $6.99. MyTopia plans to expand its offerings in the next several months.
