T-Mobile takes to the Skies to Promote Android Device in SF

On Wednesday, T-Mobile staged an air show in San Francisco featuring 100 skydivers to promote availability of the new Google Android based smartphone: myTouch 3G.

The performers from the Skydiving Innovations team in San Diego jumped from five Twin Otter planes and landed at four spots: Justin Herman Plaza, Pier 39, the Marina Green and the Moscone Recreation Center. The show also included skywriting and fly-bys along the Embarcadero.
The myTouch 3G is trying to compete with Apple’s hugely popular iPhone. A few weeks ago, in a review by Katherine Boehret of The Mossberg Solution from The Wall Street Journal (“Second Chances: T-Mobile Tries Again“), the myTouch 3G was described as feeling “less like a new device and more like what the G1 should have been in the first place.”
The review included a handy comparison chart, see below:
We carry a growing selection of free and paid apps in our Android store, which was established when the T-Mobile G1 was announced in October 2008.
On the SFGate.com website, you can gain access to 17-minutes of raw footage from T-Mobile’s aerial event.
